BACKGROUND INFO: Grand Island records for both temperatures and precipitation date back to Oct. 1895, and are based on the official NCEI ThreadEx database, which "threaded together" observations from various historical Grand Island weather stations to create one, unified record. For the past several decades, official Grand Island observations have originated from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Central Nebraska Regional Airport (located 4 miles northeast of downtown). All historical daily/monthly information for Grand Island can also be found at the NWS Hastings NOWData web page under "Grand Island Area".

BACKGROUND INFO:  As of April 2017, Hastings records (like those for Grand Island) are based on the official NCEI ThreadEx database, which "threaded together" observations from various historical Hastings weather stations to create one, unified record. All historical daily/monthly information for Hastings can also be found at the NWS Hastings NOWData web page under "Hastings Area".

PLEASE NOTE: Even though Hastings is now an official ThreadEx site, unfortunately, the historical Hastings weather records still include more instances of missing data over the years compared to Grand Island. Here are a few more details regarding the sources that comprise the complete "Hastings Area" threaded database:

- Temperatures: Hastings temperature records are based on NWS cooperative observer reports from May 1907-August 2002, with records since September 2002 from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Hastings Municipal Airport.

- Precipitation/Snowfall: Hastings precipitation records are based on NWS cooperative observer reports from Nov.1894-Aug. 2002, with records since Sep. 2002 from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Hastings Municipal Airport. All official Hastings snowfall measurements since winter 1993-94 have been taken at the NWS Office (located 4 miles north of downtown).
