B. Dual Icons & Text Phrases 1. When the weather is forecast to be dry for the first 6-hour period, dual icons and phrases will be used if inclement weather (precipitation or obstructed visibility*) is forecast for any time during the last 6 hours of the 12-hour period. * Obstructed visibility refers to elements such as fog, haze and smoke. 2. However, when the weather is forecast to start out dry for the first 6-hour period but inclement weather is expected to begin before the first 6-hour period ends, a single, inclement weather icon will be shown. Dual icons and phrases will not be used. 3. When the weather is forecast to start as inclement during the first 6-hour period, but comes to an end before the period ends, dual icons and phrases will be used to reflect improving conditions during the second 6-hour period. 4. However, if inclement weather is forecast to persist beyond the first 6-hour period, then a single inclement weather icon will be shown. Dual icons and phrases will not be used. 5. If there is a precipitation type change (i.e., rain changing to snow, freezing rain changing to rain) at anytime during a 12-hour period, dual icons and phrases will be used to denote the change. 6. If winds are strong enough to merit the “Windy”, "Breezy", or "Blustery" icon for any full 12-hour period*, but inclement weather is also expected during only one of the 6-hour periods, dual icons and phrases will be used. “Windy”, "Breezy", or "Blustery" will be used as the icon and phrase for the 6-hour period without inclement weather, while “Inclement element and Windy” will be used for the 6-hour period where both wind and the inclement “Element” is forecast (example: "Rain and Windy"). 7. In cases where winds are strong enough to merit the “Windy”, “Breezy”, or "Blustery" icon, but inclement weather is also expected during more than one of the 6-hour periods, dual icons and phrase will not be used and the icon phase will be “Inclement element and Windy, Breezy, or Blustery”. 8. If precipitation is forecast to cover both 6-hour periods and the Probability of Precipitation (PoP) increases or decreases by a value greater than or equal to 30%, dual PoP icons and phrases will be used. In such case, the PoPs for each 6-hour period will be connected with an arrow. The icon phrase will reflect the change in likelihood (e.g., rain, then chance rain). 9. Dual icons and phrases will not be used to express changing sky conditions alone. |
