March 14, 2019 Severe Storms and Damaging Winds Event

A very strong and deep low pressure system moved out of the High Plains of Colorado towards the Great Lakes Region on March 13th and 14th. An unseasonably warm and humid airmass was pulled up ahead of the storm system on March 14th across the Ohio River Valley Region. A broken line of strong to severe storms formed ahead of a strong cold front the evening of March 14th. The most severe storms were closer to Central Ohio. There was numerous reports of wind damage in Stark County around the Canton area. A NWS team was out to survey the damage and witnessed both strong straight-line wind damage along with damage that was suggestive of a tornadic activity. There were two confirmed tornadoes in Stark County.

 

Confirmed Tornadoes

This is the tornado path in the area of Perry Township, Ohio in Stark County. The EF-0 was on the ground for approximately 4 miles with estimated wind speeds up to 80 mph and a path width of 50 yards. Most damage associated with this tornado was uprooted trees and broken limbs, along with the occasional structure damage such as shingles and siding missing. Most significant structural damage occurred from at least 2 trees falling on houses.

 

 

This is the tornado path that was found Northeast of Louisville, Ohio in Stark County. The EF-0 was on the ground for approximately 1.6 miles and had estimated wind speeds of 83 mph and a path width of 100 yards. There was considerable tree damage, including uprooted trees and snapped limbs, along Easton St. NE and Pilot Knob Ave. NE. In this area, there was also several structures with minor damage to them, including missing shingles and siding. Most significant structural damage included a garage shifted off of its foundation and damaged barn doors.
