Winter 2003-'04 ended up with more snow than usual for all of northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, and much of the snow occurred in January. Some sections of the snowbelt tallied over 100 inches of snow in January alone! January was also much colder than normal, some 4 to 5 degrees below normal. The other winter months were near or above normal in temperature. The biggest single snowfall was a lake effect snow that occurred January 6-8, 2004. A mega snow band set up from Ashtabula, Ohio to Erie County, PA. Snow amounts of 2 to 3 feet were common! Our volunteer snow observer in Franklin Center, PA (Erie County) reported 30 inches of snow in one day!
