Central South Carolina and east-central Georgia have experienced a wide variety of weather phenomena throughout recorded climatological history including snow and ice storms, extreme heat, bitter cold, severe thunderstorms, devastating tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes. This calendar does not include every major weather event, but does highlight some of the most memorable ones. Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA have extensive climate records dating back to 1887 and 1874, respectively. Data from many other sources was also used in the creation of this calendar including national storm databases, cooperative weather observers, CoCoRaHS rainfall totals, SC State Climate Office and local storm reports. |
