Pacific Storms Continue to Impact the Western U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms Forecast Saturday in the South

A series of Pacific storm systems will continue to impact the western U.S. into this weekend with periods of strong to damaging winds, high surf, heavy lower elevation rain, and heavy mountain snow. Here is a storm timeline depicting our active weather through early next week. A system will bring periods of moderate precipitation and breezy southerly winds through Friday. Precipitation chances continue through the weekend with snow levels generally above pass levels.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Noon Friday for the Sierra and southern Cascades above 6000 feet. Moderate snow is expected. Remember to check the forecast and road conditions if you have holiday travel plans in the mountains!
A weather system will bring moderate to locally heavy precipitation Today and Friday, with the highest amounts expected across the northern Sacramento Valley, foothills and mountains. Expect ponding of water on roads and slick roads. Longer than normal commute. Rises on creeks, rivers, and streams.
Moderate travel impacts from moderate to heavy snow through Friday. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected above 6000 feet, locally higher over peaks. Slick roads, chain controls, and travel delays are expected.
