We're expecting widespread thunderstorm chances today. Threats will mainly include frequent lightning, heavy rain, small hail, and flooding. Storms could initiate as early as noon today and will likely populate along the same areas, allowing for the risk for flash flooding.
We've issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Reno-Carson-Minden area & Mono, Mineral, & S Lyon counties from noon until 10 pm today. The greatest risk for flash flooding will be along burn scars (Davis & Conner) and in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The Heat Advisory has been extended for eastern Lassen County, northwest and west central NV, now in effect from noon Friday until 9 AM Sunday. The Heat Advisory remains in effect for far western NV (including Reno, Carson City, Minden areas) and Mineral-southern Lyon counties from noon Friday until 9 AM Saturday. Moderate risk of heat-related illness for those sensitive to heat without protective action. Hot daytime highs with warm overnight lows, bringing little relief overnight. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities between 10 am and 7 pm, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
