Cold Temperatures for the Eastern U.S.; Lake Effect Snow in the Great Lakes; Heavy Rain in the Pacific Northwest

Cold temperatures will continue across much of the eastern U.S. into today. Heavy lake effect snow continues into today east of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Two Pacific cold fronts will cross the Pacific Northwest early this week followed by another atmospheric river. A frontal system will bring rain showers to Northwest California beginning today. Additional waves of moisture will bring more rain Tuesday and again Wednesday. The heaviest rain during this time period is expected to be in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, but rainfall totals over an inch are likely in western Trinity and northern Mendocino counties as well. Rain may be greater than forecast in southern Mendocino and Lake counties, with the best chance for heavier rain that far south Tuesday night into Wednesday. More rain is expected later in the week.
