Severe Thunderstorms Across Portions of the Midwest; Hazardous Heat in Southern Texas

A Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) of severe thunderstorms is expected across the Midwest today, especially portions of Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Illinois. Damaging winds, large hail and a few strong tornadoes are expected. A wet system will impact the Northern Rockies Wednesday and Thursday. There is high confidence in rainfall amounts of 0.25 inch or higher widespread. Where confidence is lower is in the exact track of the low pressure and resulting deformation zone or area of higher precipitation rates. The highlighted area above is our current best forecast for track of the low, in that area Thursday morning could result in snow covered roads at pass level and snow loading on tree limbs causing isolated power outages in valleys.
