NWS Storm Survey in Rutherford County on April 28, 2002

 

An F3 tornado (winds speeds of about 160 mph) struck an area beginning 7.2 miles south-[southeast] of Murfreesboro. This is on W. Gum Road, just west of I-24. The tornado ended its destruction 8.5 miles [southeast] of Murfreesboro, which is at E. Gum Rd. And Mankin-McKnight Road.

[Ten-fifteen] homes were damaged. Several trailers were demolished. [Twenty] people had to be hospitalized. One of them was seriously injured and had to be life flighted. The tornado touched down Around 734 AM CDT and lifted back up at 740 AM CDT. A tornado warning for Rutherford County was issued 715 AM CDT.

The path length of the tornado was 3.2 miles and 0.2 miles wide.
