A storm system will bring a period of strong winds across various valley areas in Utah this weekend. Winds will increase through the afternoon on Saturday across Utah's western valleys, with peak gusts up to 60 mph expected for these valleys on Saturday. Strong winds will expand eastward on Sunday, with Utah's eastern valley areas expected to see wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph while western valley winds diminish through the day. High wind warnings and advisories are in place across western valley areas while the eastern valleys are under a high wind watch.
A late season winter storm will bring accumulating snowfall to the mountains of northern Utah from Sunday through Tuesday. A period of heavy snowfall is expected from early Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening, bringing the heaviest snowfall accumulations in the mountains. Accumulations of 8 to 16 inches is expected through Tuesday, with locally up to 2 feet in the upper Cottonwood Canyons.
